Lower Your Property Taxes

Death and taxes may be life’s only certainties, but when it comes to the latter you might be able to ease the pain if you own rural land. Many states offer easy-to-get exemptions based on a property’s productivity value rather than its assessed value. Wildlife management, agricultural use such as grazing cattle, or even harvesting timber may qualify. For example, in Texas you can qualify for an agricultural exemption if you do any of the following:

  • Cut wood for fencing on adjacent properties.
  • Use the land for wildlife management.
  • Raise exotic animals for commercial use.

A knowledgeable appraiser who specializes in rural land can offer excellent advice on important savings as can the county assessor/collector where you own your land.
